5 Ways to Show Moral Support

September 06, 20224 min read

Almost every person in the world has experienced a time when they have needed to show morale support. This is often done by giving words of encouragement or compliments, but it can also be as simple as just being there for them. In this article, we will discuss five ways that you can show people around you that you care and are behind them.

1. Listen attentively

This is an easy one and can be done anywhere, anytime.  The most important part of listening is closing down the part of you that wants to change, fix or interrupt the other person and opening up the space for them to share their whole hearted truth in a safe space.  When you are listening, don’t just do it from your head. Listen with the intent to really hear what they’re saying and show them that you care about what they have to say by making eye contact or nodding your head and repeating back what you heard.  Really see the person as a person who has feelings, needs and desires just like you do and this easy natural step will help to show your moral support.

2. Offer your support and understanding

There’s no better moral support than understanding and empathy, it’s about helping someone to see their way through the bumpy journey and feeling proud of themselves. Having a safe space to express your thoughts and feelings when life feels hard is one of the best parts of being in a relationship.

3. Send a card/Make a phone call/Write an email or letter/Visit in person

Don’t be afraid to make more contact than you think is needed.  There is no such a thing as too much contact when it comes to showing morale support.  Reach out, when someone is in need of support, asking for it can be hard, don’t wait. Sitting down and writing a letter to someone can be cathartic as well.  It’s important not only for the receiver but also yourself that you express your support in a way that can make an impact long after the support is expressed.  Sending a car, making that phone call, writing an email or letter or a visit will be with you and the other person long after the contact is made.  You can even send flowers or something else with meaning attached to it as an extra morale booster….that is what Amazon is for right 🙂

4. Be encouraging by being positive and supportive

Encouragement is like the best feeling in the world. Encourage people because it’s a huge blessing to make someone feel better about themselves, even for just one second! It’s like magic: Encouragement is a potion that gets the blood pumping, and allows people to race towards their goal. But it’s not just about filling someone up with positivity; it’s about being that support someone can lean on long enough to get going again. And more than that, encouragement has proven benefits for your health as well. It benefits both of you to be encouraging by coming alongside another person in need.

5. Let them know that you are there for them no matter what happens in their life.

One of the most powerful ways to show someone support is to let them know that they are not alone. Show up! You may not always be able to fix what’s wrong but that doesn’t mean your support doesn’t make a difference.

I’m not sure about you, but I’ve always found that sometimes the best way to show someone moral support is by doing something small. With these 5 ways, your support will go a long way to serving someone powerfully.
