Why Investing in Positive Emotional Health is Worth It.

Do you find that you are buying into this notion that your value lies in your youth, beauty, and ability to please others? 


Society tells us that once we reach a certain age, or if we don't "bounce back" after having children, we are no longer desirable or worthy of love and attention. 


These messages can wreak havoc on your emotional health, leaving you feeling anxious, depressed, and unworthy. But the truth is, your value doesn't lie in your youth or your ability to please others. 


Your value lies in simply being alive and breathing. And no matter what age you are or what stage of life you're in, you deserve to feel happy, joyful, and at peace. 


That's why investing in positive emotional health is so important. 


When you take the time to nurture your mind, body, and spirit, you are essentially telling the world (and yourself) that you matter. 


You are saying you deserve to be happy and feel good—no matter what anyone else says or thinks. 


Here are some great ways to invest in your positive emotional health


Start by Naming Your Feelings 

One of the first steps to better emotional management is to simply start naming your feelings. It is easy to bottle up your feelings because you either don't know how to deal with them or you're afraid of what will happen if we let them out. 


But when you allow yourself to feel your feelings—without judgment—you can begin to understand them better. 


Spend a few minutes each day writing down how you're feeling. Once you start putting your feelings into words, they'll become less daunting and more manageable. 


Make Time for Fun 

So it's true, you often put everyone else's needs ahead of your own. 


You take care of your families, friends, jobs, pets—you name it! And while there's nothing wrong with taking care of others, it's important to make sure you're also taking care of yourself. 


One way to do this is by making time for fun activities that make you happy (with or without other people). This could be anything from reading a good book to going for a nature walk to playing fetch with your dog. The goal is simply to find activities that bring you joy and make time for them every day—even if it's just for a few minutes. 


Find a Good Coach

If you're struggling with painful emotions or situations from your past, it might be helpful to seek out professional help from a trained coach (aka ME!) who can provide support and guidance along the journey toward healing. As your coach, I can offer unbiased insight into your thoughts and feelings and help you develop healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with difficult situations.
